Two events, same weekend, same venue. Listen up.
For the weekend of Feb. 17, the third installment of the Relevance X
young adult conference will be joined at University United Methodist
Church in Las Vegas by the first-ever Relevance LEAD conference. Both
events are sponsored by Relevance Ministries, the young adult ministry
section of the Desert Southwest Annual (regional) Conference.
Relevance X is geared toward young adults
who want to have an impact on the future of the church, their
communities and their own spiritual lives. LEAD offers new ideas for
those in ministry with young adults. LEAD participants will hear from
speakers in a “TED” format, offering innovative ideas for young adult ministry.
In addition to presentations by the keynote speaker, the Rev. Jim Walker, founding pastor of Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community in Pittsburgh, Relevance X 2012 participants will hit the streets of Las Vegas for a huge service project.
The Rethink Church initiative of The United Methodist Church is teaming with Relevance X 2012 for “Impact Las Vegas,”
a cleanup of the city’s three hiking trails. More than 300 volunteers
will pick up debris and paint over graffiti to keep the trails safe and
beautiful.
Glen Simpson, director of Relevance Ministries, says of both events,
“It is imperative that we not only explore but put into action how we
will make disciples for the transformation of the world in the 21st
century.”
