This is an inspiring message of how God is working in the world. This is something all United Methodists can and should learn from if we are going to survive. Praise be to God.
I give thanks to God for this witness of what God is doing in this local community and for the exceptional leadership of the lay pastor. However, a Latino pastor myself many times I have seen a double standard when it comes to church planting and church growth strategies in our denomination. Everybody celebrate the sacrificial acts of service of leaders from ethnic groups, but would never even suggest them for the majority group. Ethnic ministries are started through short term, low budget grants - while most planters from the majority group are guaranteed full salaries packages, and budgets to operate. We need to reinforce and re-inspire our laity, but we also need to start seriously empower the new leaders coming up in all ethnic groups so we can effectively reach out to the new people who are showing up in our communities.
