Didn't the UMC take a Pacifist anti-violence stance once?
Is it true that chaplains may no longer wear their symbol of faith on their headcover ? If that is so, then the picture shown above is inaccurate and portrays an image that is not what our brave soldiers and airmen can hope to see. This makes me sad.
Mandy, Thank you for your comment. The U.S. military chaplains still wear insignia with symbols of their faith (crosses in the case of Christians, stars of David for Jewish chaplains, etc...) Cursory Googling shows that the Canadian military no longer along faith symbols on chaplain caps. But I am still trying to verify that.
More
info from Tom Carpenter, The United Methodist
Church's director of endorsement (the church endorces -- or
authorizes -- chaplains to serve in the U.S. military).
He writes: The current situation: Army Chaplains are wearing branch insignia which is faith specific on their
headgear. However, there is discussion about having a universal chaplain
symbol. Peace, Tom Carter
