College lands on top 10 list of healthy workplaces for women

Vt. (UMNS) - United Methodist-related Green Mountain College has been
named one of the "Top 10 Healthiest Companies for Women" in the
July/August issue of Health magazine.
The magazine places the
college shoulder to shoulder with employers including Verizon,
Bristol-Myers Squibb and SC Johnson - companies that have, according to
the article, demonstrated "flexible, accessible programs to help women
accomplish the ultimate multitasking feat: balancing professional and
personal responsibilities."
"At Green Mountain College, a
2-year-old wellness center offers professors and staff an array of
alternative tension-taming treatments and classes at low cost," the
article states.
"Other perks include picking up fresh vegetables
at the campus farm, which sells produce from the school's
10,000-square-foot garden," it says. "Plus, the only doctor in town
works at the college's health clinic," which offers services such as
blood work, pregnancy tests and Pap tests.
Other companies
included by the magazine are Clif Bar Inc., Berkeley, Calif.; ARUP
Laboratories, Salt Lake City; Genentech, South San Francisco; New York
Life Insurance Co., New York; Roche, Nutley, N.J., and Guidant Corp.,
Indianapolis.
Founded in 1834, Green Mountain College is a
private, four-year liberal arts institution that takes the environment
as a unifying theme across the curriculum. It is one of more than 100
colleges and universities related to the United Methodist Church.
