Volunteer pages, marshals sought for General Conference
7/8/2003 News media contact: Tim Tanton · (615) 742-5470 · Nashville, Tenn. By United Methodist News Service The
application deadline is fast approaching for people interested in
serving as volunteer marshals or pages for the 2004 General Conference.
About
160 volunteers will be needed to help the delegates, church officials
and other visitors at the denomination's top legislative assembly. More
than 5,000 people - including nearly 1,000 delegates from around the
world - are expected to attend General Conference, April 27-May 7 in
Pittsburgh.
Marshals and pages are crucial to the assembly,
helping distribute materials, assisting disabled visitors and filling a
variety of other needs. They travel and serve at their own expense.
Applications
are due Aug. 31, and applicants will be notified of their status by
Oct. 31. Forms are available at the General Conference Web site,
http://www.umc.org/gc2004/, or may be requested by mail from Mark
Wharff, 2064 Sheldon Drive, Modesto, CA 95350-0389, or by sending an
e-mail message to MRWharff@cs.com.
