New Church Development offers special tool at Annual
Conference The Commission on New Church Development
(CNCD) will introduce an additional tool to help churches understand
the communities in which they serve. MissionInsite is a new
user-friendly, web-based demographics resource. It features
additional data not available from Percept. A representative from
MissionInsite, Peter Wernett, will be available at the CNCD booth to
demonstrate MissionInsite and answer questions from Wednesday
through Friday evening.
Food collection Food donations that are
brought to Annual Conference should be boxed in reasonably sized
boxes like those used for Round Up. Donations do not need to be
specially marked or labeled. Items can be left at the south end of
the large parking lot south of Collins during registration until
6:45 p.m. If the donating congregation would like credit for this
donation, they will need to keep a record of the pounds of food
brought and record it in November on the Round-Up form. The
following agencies will work together to divide the items based on
their current needs: Amistad y Fe, Ogden Friendship House and Wesley
House.

Institute deadline has changed The early bird
deadline for Institute has been changed to June 4. Institute is a
week-long session that focuses on deepening personal relationships
with God and others through spiritual growth. Institute is for
middle and high school youth and takes place every summer at Baker
University in Baldwin. Youth can register for Institute on the

Tax form information for church-run
schools Churches that are operating private schools,
including pre-schools, but excluding before- and after-school
programs, should be aware that they might need to file an extra tax
form. If the program teaches secular subjects and generally
complies with state law requirements for public education, Form 5578
must be filed for the church if Federal Form 990 it is not already
being filed. Form 5578 is the federal form for Annual
Certification of Racial Nondiscrimination for a Private School
Exempt From Federal Income Tax.
The form can be found online at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5578.pdf.
Recommend campus ministries to high school
seniors As churches honor high school graduates, it is a
good time to call attention to United Methodist campus ministries.
Ten colleges and universities in Kansas have United Methodist campus
ministries available.
Links to campus ministries pages can be found at www.kansaseast.org/page.asp?pkvalue=287.
The conference website offers a way for students to connect with
campus ministers through e-mail before moving to campus later this
summer.
Use the form at www.kansaseast.org/campus_ministry_form.asp.
