How can the gap between United Methodist congregations and conferences and the denomination’s academic institutions be bridged?
.
The United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry is counting the ways.
The agency has developed a list of 31 recommendations gathered from the
“Bridging the Gap” events that it sponsored in each of the
denomination’s five jurisdictions.
Aimed specifically at academic institutions, local churches and church
members, the suggestions are meant to build relationships.
United Methodist-related colleges and universities, for example, are
encouraged to help lead youth events at churches, establish an email
group with local congregations and host seminars on financing higher
education.
Congregations can encourage high school members to attend a campus
ministry worship service, highlight a college or university on a
specific Sunday and make information available on scholarships and
loans.
