Awards go to United Methodist-related publications

United Methodist-related publications, editors, writers and photographers garnered 21 awards in the 2007 "Best of the Christian Press" competition sponsored by the Associated Church Press.

The awards were presented April 21 during the organization's annual meeting in Dallas.

Awards of Excellence went to:

New World Outlook––Magazine Editorial, Margo Sabella, "The Story of the Week."

The Progressive Christian––Best in Class, General Interest Magazine, Stephen Swecker and Brenda Riddell.

United Methodist Reporter––Robin Russell: Newspaper News Story, "SMU Forum to Address Bush Library Concerns;" Meeting Coverage, "Reconciling Ministries Network Convocation;" Newspaper In-Depth Coverage, Bush Library protests; Kristin Del Mul: Front Page, "It could've been me." 

 
The Progressive Christian was honored as the "best in class" for general interest magazines.

Awards of Merit went to:

New World Outlook––Best in Class-Special Interest Magazine, Christie R. House, Hal Sadler and Sean Grandits.

Interpreter––Best in Class-Denominational Magazine, Kathy Noble, Joey Butler, Deborah White, MCM Design Studio (tie with Disciples World); Magazine Feature, Kelly C. Martini, "Not Your Parents' Church ... or Is It?".

Paul Jeffrey: Magazine Photography, "Waiting in Darfur," published in The Christian Century.

United Methodist NeXus, Best in Class-Independent Website or E-zine, Cynthia B. Astle and S. Kathleen Palmer.

United Methodist Reporter, Newspaper Editorial, Mary Jacobs, "Dad, the Bumbling Idiot;" Newspaper Feature, Robin Russell, "A Parent's Dilemma."

Vital Theology, Interview, "Person Who Did This Is Like Us," David W. Reid (tie with Baptist Press).

Honorable Mention awards went to:

Devozine, Best in Class-Special Interest Magazine, Sandy Miller, Patrick Worley; Devotional/Inspirational, Sarah Arthur (tie with Disciples World); ancillary product, Kara Lassen Oliver, Sandy Miller, Patrick Worley.
