Trailer: A Killer In The Dark


Perrette gave her voice to a TV special about the extraordinary efforts to end deaths from malaria, called "A Killer in the Dark." The hour special, which aired on NBC affiliates in May 2011, explores grassroots work and scientific progress to help communities fight the deadly disease. “A Killer in the Dark: An Extraordinary Effort to Combat Malaria” garnered top honors for Video/Nonprofit and Script/Nonprofit from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.

Congo Pilot Medical Mission

Gaston Ntambo is the son of an African bishop who found his calling in the cockpit of a rescue plane. As a United Methodist missionary with "Wings of the Morning," Ntambo transports patients and medical supplies in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  This video was given the top video honor from the United Methodist Association of Communicators.

When Shane Stanford graduated from a United Methodist seminary and told people he was HIV-positive, even churches turned their backs. The experience tested the young pastor's faith. Stanford remembers, "I wasn't so much upset with God as much as with God's people."

Church's Harry Potter Halloween

Each October, staff at Quincy Community United Methodist Church dress as characters, including Hagrid, Mad-Eye Moody and Professors Trelawney and Snape. The pastor says it draws people in. "There are lots of people who have never set foot in a church. We feel that the Harry Potter Extravaganza  is a way to welcome people into our church."

9/11 Memorial in Shanksville

2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the U.S. Forty plane passengers became heroes on 9/11 when they battled terrorists for control of Flight 93. The hijacked plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Since then, more than a million tourists have visited the site in rural Shanksville. Local United Methodists are ambassadors who share the story of what happened on property many consider "sacred ground.”

9/11 Pastor Seeks Peace

The Rev. Myrna Bethke was in New Jersey watching the news unfold on 9/11.   Her brother died in the north tower that day but Bethke rose above her personal grief and turned her attention to members of her United Methodist church who were grieving. She later traveled to Afghanistan with other 9/11 family members as a peace ambassador.

Tornado Losses, Lessons

When deadly storms tore through Alabama, The Rev. Kelly Clem was there to comfort the suffering. Clem has a unique ability to understand her neighbors’ pain, because her life was changed by a tornado that hit her Alabama church in 1994. Twenty-two people, including Clem's young daughter, were killed. Today, Clem celebrates the healing she has done since that day and uses the experience to help others.

Eighteen-year-old Mercedes Gonzales isn't an average American teenager because she's not American. She is considered a "dreamer" — a young adult who was brought to the United States as a small child.  The story of her struggles received a Gold Award from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals.  Churches are encouraged to use the video as part of conversations about immigration.

The Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre in Texas helps children who have lost a loved one, are experiencing a divorce, or coping with a parent being incarcerated. Because traumas can be hard to talk about, counselors help kids tell their stories through art and music.
